Belarus, Viet Nam can do more, says President Lukashenko

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that his country is aware of Viet Nam’s economic potential and is eager to develop the trade and economic relationship between the two nations.

At a meeting with Viet Nam’s visiting Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh on August 20, President Lukashenko said that the Belarusian-Vietnamese partnership has been developing rapidly.

“Viet Nam is a very important country in Southeast Asia for Belarus. It can be a firm foothold for our country in the region as well as Belarus being a foothold in Europe for Viet Nam,” President Lukashenko was quoted as saying.

President Lukashenko said that he will pay a visit to Viet Nam in the next few months.

Two-way trade between Belarus and Viet Nam came in at 49.3 million USD for 2006, a year-on-year increase of 25 percent.-(VNA)
